Cheap Air India Flights
Air India is the state-owned national airline of India. Air India is headquartered in Mumbai, and its main hubs are Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport (Mumbai) and Indira Gandhi International Airport (New Delhi). It considers Chennai International Airport to be a focus city.
Air India flies to 50 destinations around the world on the continents of Africa, Asia, Europe and North America. Its slogan is “Your Palace in the Sky.” The airline continues to increase its route network, recently adding service to Shanghai in China, and Newark and Los Angeles in the United States. In 1993, Air India made a historical first non-stop flight between New York and Delhi. The airline has been given awards for its in-flight catering services, and has received a four-star rating for cabin safety procedures from SkyTrax.
It was announced in early 2007 that Air India and Indian Airlines, India’s two state-run carriers, would be merging into one. The new company, which is expected to be formed over the next two years, will be among the top 30 airlines in the world. Each company currently has its own budget airline subsidiary (Air India Express and Alliance Air), and those will also merge into one budget carrier which will be a subsidiary of the new company.
