Cheap bmi Flights

bmi is an airline based in Donington Hall in the East Midlands region of England. The lowercase spelling is intentional, though the reasoning behind it is not. The airline was once known as British Midland, although bmi does not technically stand for anything. bmi's bases are Manchester Airport and London Heathrow, and it flies to nearly 40 destinations in Europe, the United States, the Caribbean and Saudi Arabia. In early 2007, bmi purchased British Mediterranean Airways, which means that it will soon be expanding its route network to include more destinations in Africa, Central Asia and the Middle East.

Although bmi flies to several cities in the United States from its Manchester hub, it is attempting to break into the stronghold that a small handful of airlines have on transatlantic flights originating at London Heathrow. At the moment, only British Airways, Air India, Virgin Atlantic, American Airlines, United Airlines, Air New Zealand and Kuwait Airways are permitted to offer transatlantic routes from Heathrow. The end of the Bermuda II restrictions will mean that bmi will have a chance to join that club in 2008. bmi is owned partly by Lufthansa and partly by SAS.

bmi is a member of the Star Alliance airline alliance and has code sharing agreements with a long list of airlines, including Air Canada, Air France, Air New Zealand, Austrian Airways, Gulf Air, LOT Polish Airlines, Lufthansa, SAS, Singapore Airlines, South African Airways, Spanair, Thai Airways International, United Airlines, US Airways and Virgin Atlantic.
