bmi (British Midland Airways Limited) is an airline based in Donington Hall in the East Midlands region of England. bmi’s base is at London Heathrow. It flies to 31 destinations in Europe, the United States, the Caribbean and Saudi Arabia.
In January 2007, bmi purchased British Mediterranean Airways, which enabled the airline to offer more mid-haul destinations in Africa, Central Asia and the Middle East. In July 2009, Lufthansa took full control of the airline. As a result, seven routes have been suspended as of 2010 and the fleet has been reduced by nine airplanes.
bmi is a member of the Star Alliance and has code sharing agreements with a long list of airlines, including Aegean Airlines, Air Canada, Air New Zealand, Austrian Airways, Gulf Air, LOT Polish Airlines, Lufthansa, SAS, South African Airways, Spanair, United Airlines, US Airways and Virgin Atlantic .
bmi’s loyalty program is called Diamond Club. The miles earned when you travel with the airline can be redeemed on flights, hotel, car hire, gifts and upgrades.
All bmi aircrafts offer two classes: Business Class and Economy. Business class passengers get Premium Check-in Zone at Terminal 1, London Heathrow for quick and hassle-free boarding. They also get up to 40 kg baggage allowance and two pieces of hand baggage. On long-haul flights, meals are also offered. Economy passengers can purchase refreshments on board; on mid-haul and long-haul flights they get a wide choice of in-flight entertainment.
