Cheap El Al Flights
El Al Israel Airlines is Israel’s largest airline and its flag carrier. The airline is based in Tel Aviv and its hub is that city’s Ben Gurion International Airport. El Al serves more than 40 destinations to Africa (Egpyt, South Africa), Asia (China, India, Thailand), North America (Canada, United States), Europe (Austria, Belarus, Belgium, Bulgaria, Czech Republic, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Italy, Lithuania, Netherlands, Poland, Romania, Russia, Spain, Switzerland, Ukraine, United Kingdom) and throughout Israel.
After a strike in 2006, El Al attempted to make up lost time by operating some flights on Shabbat (Saturday), the Jewish holy day. In protest, the more conservative Jewish groups boycotted the airline, so El Al signed an agreement saying it would no longer fly on Shabbat. The moral of this story is this – don’t try to get a flight on El Al on Saturdays. It’s not going to happen.
El Al works hard to maintain the reputation for being the most safe airline in the world. In addition to the typical security measures taken by every airport and airline, El Al also employs several undercover agents per flight to sit amongst the passengers and protect against potential hijackings. These agents are armed. All flight crews are also trained in hand-to-hand combat, and most pilots are former Israeil Air Force pilots. Access to the cockpit is very difficult as well – there are two doors, and the second can only be opened after the first has closed and the person desiring access has been identified by someone already in the cockpit. On the ground, passengers are required to check in three hours before takeoff for the extra security measures the airline employs even before you get on the plane.
El Al flies an all-Boeing fleet. The airline has a code sharing agreement with several airlines, including Austrian Airlines, Brussels Airlines, Cyprus Airways, Delta Air Lines, Iberia Airlines and South African Airlines.
