Cheap Lufthansa Flights
Deutsche Lufthansa is Germany’s largest airline, and the second-largest in Europe. It’s based in Cologne, Germany, and its main hub is Frankfurt International Airport in Frankfurt am Main. Munich International Airport is a secondary hub for the airline as well. Lufthansa recently took over Swiss International Airlines, which means that Zürich Airport will eventually become the airline’s third main hub. The name “Lufthansa” is derived from Luft (the German word for “air”) and Hansa (for the Hanseatic League, a powerful trading group in the medieval era).
Lufthansa flies to destinations on five continents – Africa, Asia, Europe, North America and South America. It is a founding member of the Star Alliance airline alliance, which is the largest in the world with nearly 900 destinations served. Lufthansa has recently ordered 15 of the giant Airbus A380 airplanes for delivery in 2009, which will probably be used on flights to Asia, Canada and the US. Though you might think such an expenditure would increase ticket prices, Lufthansa’s hoping the new planes will do just the opposite – with the A380′s lower operating costs and increased passenger capacity, the airline is expecting to increase efficiency without raising ticket prices.
Of course, Lufthansa is also associated more with luxury air travel than some other airlines, especially on its nonstop service from the US to Frankfurt. It’s particularly satisfying, therefore, to get a great deal on a ticket from them. You might have to be more flexible with your travel schedule to take advantage of the best prices, but it’s worth it.
