Cheap Monarch Airlines Flights
The British Monarch Airlines is primarily a charter airline in the UK, and one of the UK’s biggest, but also offers scheduled service as a low cost carrier based at London Luton Airport. The other hubs for Monarch are Birmingham International Airport, London Gatwick Airport and Manchester Airport. Its charter services are, as you might expect, mainly flights to holiday destinations in the United States, Canada, India, the Caribbean, Africa and throughout Europe. The scheduled flights operate under a different name (“Monarch Scheduled”) and serve several cities in the Mediterranean, Cyprus and the Canary Islands in addition to some of the destinations the charter airline services.
Initially, Monarch Scheduled went against the budget carrier model by offering free meals and beverages during flight, as well as newspapers and in-flight entertainment. But when low cost airlines like Ryanair and easyJet began operating, their bare bones approach to budget flights becamse the new model which has been gradually adopted by most other airlines in that market – including Monarch. Monarch still offers meals, beverages and pre-assigned seating, but each one carries an additional charge now. The airline still maintains its free in-flight entertainment, however, in an effort to make itself stand out from its competitors. Additionally, Monarch Scheduled will be increasing the legroom in its cabin to something akin to what British Airways cabins offer.
In 2006, Monarch received the “Leisure Airline of the Year” award from the Travel Trade Gazette. The airline’s frequent flyer program is called “Vantage Club.”
