TAP Portugal is the national airline of Portugal, headquartered at Lisbon Airport, which is also its hub. The airline also keeps Porto and Funchal (Madeira) as focus cities. It offers flights to 75 destinations in 33 countries worldwide.

It has been a member of Star Alliance since 2005 and also has codeshare agreements with many airlines, including: Aegean Airlines, Alitalia, Air Canada, Air China, Austrian Airlines, Continental Airlines , Lufthansa, Spainair, Turkish Airlines, United Airlines and US Airways.

The airline started its operations in 1945, under the name of Transportes Aéreos Portugueses (Portuguese Air Transportations). In 1953 it became a private company, but in 1975 it was nationalized becoming a state-owned corporation and changed its name to TAP Air Portugal. 1996 saw the launch of TAP’s website

As of 2010, TAP introduced new routes to Africa (Marrakech & Algiers). In the same year, the airline was awarded “World’s Best Airline Award” by British Condé Nast Travel magazine.

The aircrafts are divided into two classes: tap executive and economy class. On all long and short haul flights, passengers can read “UP”, the new in-flight magazine. An in-flight entertainment system is also available; the TV programs that can be watch depend on the length of the flight (medium or long-haul). And there are also the latest perfumes and cosmetics available in a shop on board the aircrafts.
