TAROM is the flag carrier and oldest currently operating airline of Romania. It is headquartered at Henri Coanda International Airport (IATA: OTP) in Bucharest. The airline also uses OTP as its hub. The focus cities are : Cluj Napoca and Sibiu.
TAROM operates scheduled domestic and international services to 54 destinations in 24 countries in Europe, Africa and the Middle East. The airline joined SkyTeam in June 2010.
Its frequent flyer program is Flying Blue (which is also the frequent flyer program of Air France, KLM, all SkyTeam members and partners). The airline offers the possibility to check in online.
Romania’s first national airline was founded in 1920, under the name of CFRNA. It kept changing names over the years and in 1945 TARS was founded, jointly-owned by the governments of Romania and the Soviet Union. In 1954 it adopted the name of TAROM. After the fall of communism, the airline started adding long haul flights to Montreal and Bangkok. Unfortunately, the 1990s were rather difficult for the company and the airline later decided to focus its operations in Bucharest, Cluj Napoca and Sibiu.
For some international routes, aside from the SkyTeam parteners, the airline also has some code share agreements with airlines such as: Austrian Airlines, Bulgaria Air, Emirates and Malev.
