Cheap US Airways Flights
US Airways, the United States’ fifth largest airline, has its headquarters in Tempe, Arizona. It flies to 240 destinations in North America, Central America, the Caribbean, Hawaii and Europe. Its main hubs are at Charlotte Douglas International Airport, Philadelphia International Airport, Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport and McCarran International Airport, with a secondary hub at Pittsburgh International Airport. It also considers Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport, LaGuardia Airport and Logan International Airport to be focus cities.
US Airways had the largest airline presence at Reagan National in Washington, D.C., and so was adversely impacted by the the September 11 attacks. Prior to the attacks, Reagan National had been a key hub for the airline. In 2005, the parent company of America West Airlines acquired US Airways, and the merger is expected to be complete in 2007. The merger has resulted in US Airways becoming more of a “low-cost” carrier, like America West, but the new merged airline will continue to bear the US Airways name.
The original destinations served by US Airways when it was founded are still the airline’s strengths today – specifically, those in the eastern United States. The US Airways presence on the western coast of the US has increased since the merger with America West. US Airways also flies to the Caribbean and to several points in Europe.
US Airways is a member of the Star Alliance airline alliance.
