WestJet is a Canadian low-cost carrier which offers scheduled and charter flights to 71 destinations in Canada, the United States, Mexico and the Caribbean. It is currently the second largest Canadian airline, after Air Canada.
The airline is headquartered and based at Calgary International Airport, while Toronto Pearson International Airport is its second largest hub. It also keeps large bases the following focus cities: Las Vegas, Winnipeg, Vancouver, Montreal, Halifax and Edmonton.
In 1996, the first WestJet flight departed. In the beginning the airline served Calgary, Edmonton, Kelowna, Vancouver, and Winnipeg. By the end of the same year, it added three more destinations. In 2001 and 2002 the expansion continued and the airline included flights to London. In June 2007, destinations in Mexico and the Caribbean were added.
Its frequent flyer program is Frequent Guest Program, which allows members to earn WestJet dollars. These can be used to purchase of WestJet flights or WestJet Vacations packages.
Back in 2005, WestJet introduced in-flight entertainment from LiveTV. Later on, they added a buy on board meals service with sandwiches, alcoholic beverages, and some snacks for purchase. Starting with 2006, the airline opened lounges in several Canadian airports.
