Cheap Flights to Barbados

Sir Grantley Adams International Airport (airport code BGI), once called the Seawell Airport after the area it is in, is the international airport for the island of Barbados. It is nearly 13km from the center of Bridgetwon, the capital city. With direct service to the United States, Canada, South America, Africa and Europe, the airport in Barbados is busy for the size of the island. Grantley Adams serves as a secondary hub for Caribbean Star and Leeward Islands Air Transport (LIAT). Even if you are not planning to spend time in Barbados, the airport is such a large gateway to the region that you might fly through it anyway.

The website for Grantley Adams has basically no useful information on it for passengers, unfortunately, although of course that could change at any moment. For the time being, however, suffice it to say that several major airlines have service to Barbados - either directly or through one of their airline alliance partners. Some of them are: Air Canada, Air Jamaica, American Airlines, bmi, British Airways, Delta Air Lines, US Airways and Virgin Atlantic Airways. Passenger services include a post office, bank, change bureau, restaurants, bars, Duty Free shop, tourist help desk, car rental and a business center. The airport is currently undergoing an expansion project, so some of these services may be unavailable during the construction. To get from the airport into Bridgetown, you can take a bus (they leave from the airport every 15 minutes) or a taxi or you can rent a car.

More Information on Barbados

If the name of the airport with the "Sir" in front is not a dead giveaway, then let us tell you that Barbados has historically had close ties to Britain. It was a British colony for ages, and is still a popular vacation spot for people from the United Kingdom. Whether they still come for the beaches or the rum is debatable - both are world class.
