How to Find Cheap Air Travel to/from Chicago

Chicago has no shortage of airports to fly in and out of. Chicago Midway International Airport is the city’s second busiest airport, after the giant O’Hare, and sits only eight miles from downtown Chicago. Midway, as it is more commonly known, was once the world’s busiest airport, back in the days before the existence of O’Hare. It is now used more by low cost air carriers, including AirTran Airways and Southwest Airlines, so might be a less expensive option for traveling to/from Chicago. Midway is a focus city for Southwest Airlines and AirTran Airways, and the main operations base for ATA Airlines, so those are the airlines to check for special deals on tickets.

You will find a complete list of carriers serving Midway here and a flight tracker is here. Layouts of the terminals, including the restaurants, shops and other passenger amenities to be found in each, can be found here. Ground transportation options are listed here. If you are driving to the airport, you will save time and money on Chicago airport parking if you book it ahead of time.

The Chicago area is also served by Chicago O’Hare International Airport (ORD), Gary-Chicago International Airport (GYY) and Chicago-Rockford International Airport (RFD).
