How to Find Cheap Air Travel to/from Phoenix
Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport (airport code PHX) is Arizona’s main international airport, and one of the largest in the entire Southwest of the United States. It serves as the homebase for US Airways and a hub for Southwest Airlines, so those are the airlines to check for special deals on tickets. In early 2007 Phoenix was the first airport to use what are called “Backscatter X-ray” machines for passengers going through security; the machines allow screeners to essentially see through clothing to make sure nothing is being hidden underneath. Be sure to wear your best underwear.
A complete list of airlines serving Sky Harbor can be found here, an overview of what airlines fly to what destinations here, and there is a flight tracker here (you’ll be redirected to the respective airline’s flight tracker). Your shopping and dining options are listed here (by terminal), and there is free wireless access available on the gates level of all terminals. The more detailed maps of the terminals, which indicate not only which shops are located in each terminal but also the airlines operating there, are in PDF form and linked from the main services page here. There are plenty of ground transportation options, listed here, and maps and directions to and from the airport here. If you are driving to the airport, you can save time and money on Phoenix airport parking if you book it in advance.
