How to Find Cheap Air Travel to/from Puerto Rico
Luis Muñoz MarÃn International Airport (airport code SJU) serves the Puerto Rican capital of San Juan, but actually lies three miles outside the city in Carolina. The San Juan airport is not just for Puerto Rico’s largest city, though – it is the main international airport on the island. Flights from San Juan go to several points on the mainland United States as well as several other Puerto Rican cities, including Culebra, Aguadilla, Ponce and Vieques. San Juan also serves as the Caribbean hub for American Airlines and American Eagle.
The airport’s website is in Spanish, and the button for translating it into English does not seem to work (at least not at press time), so your best bet will be to befriend a Spanish speaker or take educated guesses (without Spanish speaking friends nearby, we were forced to do the latter). For instance, if you put your cursor on the menu item that says “Aeropuerto Internacionales” you get a second menu on the right. From that second menu, click on the item that says “Luis Muñoz MarÃn (Carolina)” and you will go to the San Juan airport’s page. Everything about that airport is on that one page, you just have to scroll down to find it.
Midway down the page you will find a list of “Instalaciones y Servicios,” which is the list of facilities and services at the airport. They include “restaurants, cafeterias, stores, bank, beauty parlors, barber’s shop, massages and ‘Duty Free Shops’” among other services. A little further down you will find the box marked “AerolÃneas” which is the list of airlines serving San Juan, along with their contact numbers.
