Getting from Jamaica to the Dominican Republic isn’t as straightforward as you might expect. The problem is that there are no airlines – including Air Jamaica – that fly between the two countries. So no matter what, you’ll be have to take an indirect flight, stopping over on another island or, more likely, in Florida.
In Jamaica, your airport choices will be Montego Bay, most convenient to the more resorty west side of the island, and Kingtson. In the Dominican Republic, most international flights arrive in Punta Cana, Puerta Plata, Santo Domingo or Santiago.
Best airline choices
There are no direct flights from Jamaica to the Dominican Republic and nearly all flights connect in Miami or Fort Lauderdale. The best airline choices are:
- Air Jamaica

- US Airways
The ticket prices for flights to Jamaica from the Dominican Republic tend to be fairly constant and because of the required connection, generally pretty expensive, becoming even more costly around the holidays. But, if you book in advance, you can generally find tickets for under $300-$400 round trip.
Money saving tips
Check websites like Expedia, Travelocity or Priceline but remember that not all of them list the low-cost carriers and sometimes the prices are a bit lower when you book directly with the airlines. Book further in advance and avoid peak travel times and you can shave a bit more off the total cost.
