Unless you never looked at a map, you probably know already that both countries are massive. Choosing the right US airport to fly into depends on your final vacation destination. And it goes without saying that you cannot attempt to visit the entire USA during a one week or two weeks vacation.
There are numerous flights to USA from Canada but finding the best option for you might be a little trickier than you expect.
If you are mobile and flexible, you can always attempt to find the cheapest airfare possible for flights to USA from Canada. One such choice is flying into JFK from Toronto’s Pearson International Airport. Generally speaking, flying into one of the US airports closer to the border assures a low fare but you need to consider the cost of traveling within the US.
In US, the busiest airport is Hartsfield Atlanta International Airport, a hub for Delta Air Lines. Other busy airports include Chicago O’Hare International Airport, LAX, JFK and Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport, to name just a few.
In Canada, Toronto’s Pearson Airport is the busiest and a hub for Air Canada (but WestJet also has a hub here). Other busy Canadian airports include: Vancouver International Airport and Montreal’s Pierre Elliott Trudeau International Airport.
Best airline choices
There are many airlines to choose from when you fly to USA from Canada. The competition is fierce and everyone seems to run some sort of a promotion so the prices are similar. Unless you prefer a certain airline or like to use your frequent flyer miles, here are some airlines to choose from:
- Delta Air Lines
- American Airlines
- Air Canada
Since we are talking about such large countries, it’s hard to point out a “typical price”. It helps to know though that during summer, the price for round trip flight between Toronto and JFK starts at $250. As the winter draws near less and less flights are available but prices tend to stay around $260 for a round trip. On the other coast for a Vancouver to LAX round trip flight prices start at $340 during the summer.
It’s more expensive to fly from one coast to another. For example for a flight between Toronto and LAX the prices are around $500 for a round trip flight.
Money saving tips
Since the economical crisis is not helping much with filling the airplane seats, your best bet is to look for the sales and promotions available. Be open-minded about the airline and even the cities you can fly between.
Try to fly mid-week as studies show that the cheapest fares are always on Wednesday.
Book your ticket ahead of time, but not too early. For example, booking more than two months in advance can actually mean you’d be paying more for your ticket than if you bought it within the 2 to 8 weeks ideal period. Needless to say, if you are booking right before you leave, the price will be very high.
